I just had to log onto the website, indicate the items I was keeping and print out a return label. The return process for the varsity jacket was incredibly simple. Unfortunately, the varsity jacket was too big even though it was the same size as the shirt and cardigan but I was actually a bit relieved since I had only intended to keep one item this month. The cardigan was a great fit too and super comfortable as it’s made of 100% cotton. The shirt from Frank and Oak struck a good balance between the two and is great for working in a business casual environment or going out for drinks with friends. One of my pet peeves with getting shirts is that the collar is either too floppy and casual or too rigid and formal. The crimson shirt had just the right amount of thickness but the material was still soft. I was very impressed with the quality of the clothing I received. Being an online service of off-the-rack clothing it can be hard to get sizing right, but the site does a good job of sizing you based on other brands that fit you. All of the items that I ordered were in a S size and the shirt and cardigan fit me perfectly. I’m always skeptical of trying on new brands since I have a slim figure and most clothes are too big on me. This month I ordered 3 items, a new haven crimson shirt, a blue dawson varsity jacket and a ranford cardigan in charcoal. Fortunately, Frank and Oak strikes a home run in both of those categories. Obviously none of this means anything if the clothes aren’t quality or don’t fit. In addition to this, based on a brief survey and your monthly choices, the company begins to provide you with clothing suggestions based on your style preferences. The clothes get shipped to you, you try them on, and pay only for whatever you decide to keep. If you join The Hunt Club, their main service, you get an email at the start of each month to pick 3 things to try on. Each item is under $50, with the exception of blazers and jackets. Their main demographic is male twenty-somethings that either don’t like or don’t have the time to properly shop for new clothes. Simply put, Frank and Oak designs, manufactures and sells quality clothes directly to their customers. In fact, I can’t even remember the last time I did something like that but I’m so impressed by Montreal startup Frank & Oak that I had to write about them and spread the word. There’s even baroque harpsichord opening! Who knew? All jokes aside, this is an elegant and sweet number that will no doubt be featured in many indie rom-coms. “Step,” on the other hand, is a ballad that feels much more typical of Vampire Weekend. The result is a song that sounds classic yet fresh and how can you not love the perfect breakdown that puts a spotlight on Ezra Koenig’s amazing vocals. “Diane Young” brings a 50s dance-vibe alongside signature twists from the band like frenetic drumming, vocal pitch bends and some scratchy guitar solos. But that was before I heard these two magnificent tracks. I have to be honest, I wasn’t that excited about Vampire Weekend’s upcoming album “Modern Vampires of the City.” Their last album didn’t really do it for me and with so many albums coming out this year, they just faded into the background.
